The circuit boards can be classified into various types according to the substrate, mainly including the following:

1. FR-4 base material

Description: FR-4 is the most commonly used PCB material, consisting of glass fibre and epoxy resin, with good insulating properties and mechanical strength.

Applications: Widely used in consumer electronics, computers, communication equipment and other fields.

2. CEM-1 Base Material

Description: CEM-1 is made of paper and epoxy resin composite, usually for single-sided PCB use, with lower cost and good insulating properties.

Application: Suitable for low-cost consumer electronics products.

3. CEM-3 Substrate

Description: CEM-3 is an improved substrate, composed of glass fibre and epoxy resin, but slightly cheaper than FR-4, commonly used for double-sided PCBs.

Application: Mainly used for consumer electronics products.

4. Aluminium Substrates

Description: Aluminium substrate consists of aluminium as the underlying material, which has good thermal conductivity and is commonly used in LED and high power electronic products.

Application: Used in LED lighting, lighting equipment, etc.

5. Polyimide (PI) Substrates

Description: Polyimide is a material with excellent high temperature resistance and flexibility for high temperature applications.

Applications: Mostly used in aerospace, military and flexible circuit boards (FPC).

6. Ceramic Substrates

Description: Ceramic substrates have excellent thermal conductivity and high temperature stability and are commonly used in high frequency and high power applications.

Applications: Used in RF equipment, communication equipment and high power electronics.

7. High Frequency Substrates

Description: Includes materials such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), designed for high-frequency circuits with low dielectric constant and low loss characteristics.

Applications: Widely used in radio frequency (RF), microwave and high-speed signal transmission applications.

8. FR-1 Base Material

Description: FR-1 consists of paper and epoxy resin and is typically used for lower cost single-sided circuit boards.

Applications: Suitable for simple electronics and low-cost applications.

Summary

Depending on the needs of different applications, you can choose the appropriate PCB substrate. Each substrate has its own unique characteristics and advantages. Understanding these characteristics helps to make more effective decisions when designing and manufacturing circuit boards.
